Seasonal water chemistry of coastal wetlands at the Beaubassin Research Station, New Brunswick.
About the study
We investigated changes in water chemistry, and particularly nutrients, in coastal, freshwater wetlands around the Beaubassin Research Station on the northern shores of the Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick. Recently constructed wetlands had high nutrients which increased notably through the summer, while impoundments constructed 10-40 years earlier had much lower nutrient levels. Because these sites are underlain with relatively impermeable marine clays and have little overland flow, we suspect that they receive few allochthonous nutrient inputs, contributing to their relatively low productivity.
