Temporal abundance of macroinvertebrates in coastal wetlands at the Beaubassin Research Station, New Brunswick.
About the Study
We investigated the temporal pattern of abundance of several waterbird foods in brackish and freshwater wetlands at the Beaubassin Research Station, on the northern shores of the Bay of Fundy, N.B. Brackish wetlands had greater abundance but lower diversity of macroinvertebrates than freshwater sites. Over all 11 wetlands, we did not observe a pulse of high abundance typical of wetlands elsewhere, which we attribute to relatively low flow and productivity of these sites. Companion research examining water chemistry is underway.
